Updated November 2026. ChatGPT now has more plans than ever: Free, Go, Plus, three levels of Pro, two Business seat types and Enterprise. OpenAI changed the line-up several times in 2026, adding ads to the cheaper tiers, launching new Pro levels and moving everyone to GPT-6 models. This guide explains what each plan costs, what you actually get, and which one fits you.
Short answer: most people should start on Free. Upgrade to Plus ($20/month) when you hit limits on uploads, images or deep research, or want the stronger GPT-6 Sol model and no ads. Go ($8/month) suits light users who want higher limits but can live with ads. Pro is only worth it if you use ChatGPT, Codex or ChatGPT Work for hours every day.
ChatGPT plans at a glance
| Plan | Price (US) | Default model | Ads | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | GPT-6 Luna | Yes, in many countries | Trying ChatGPT and everyday questions |
| Go | $8/month | GPT-6 Luna | Yes | Light users who need higher limits |
| Plus | $20/month | GPT-6 Sol | No | Most regular users |
| Pro | $100, $200 or $500/month | GPT-6 Sol, with GPT-6 Astra Pro reasoning | No | Heavy daily users and developers |
| Business | $25 per user/month ($20 yearly); Premium seats $125 ($100 yearly) | As Plus, with admin controls | No | Teams of 2 to 200 people |
| Enterprise | Custom | Full range | No | Large organisations |
Prices are OpenAI’s US list prices. Local prices, taxes and app store prices can differ.
ChatGPT Free
The free plan is better than it used to be. Since August 2026, free users get unlimited text chats (within fair-use rules) and a Think button for harder questions. The default model is GPT-6 Luna.
You get: web search, a limited number of file uploads, image generations and voice chats, a few lighter deep research runs each month, memory, and limited access to Codex and ChatGPT Work in the desktop app.
Limits: no access to GPT-6 Sol, lower caps on uploads and images, and ads in many countries. Your chats can be used to train OpenAI’s models unless you switch that off in Settings, under Data Controls.
ChatGPT Go ($8/month)
Go is OpenAI’s budget plan, now available in more than 170 countries. It uses the same GPT-6 Luna model as Free but raises the limits on messages with tools, file uploads, image generation and voice, and gives ChatGPT a longer memory.
Worth it if: you regularly run out of free uploads or images but do not need advanced reasoning models. Bear in mind that Go still shows ads, and features such as Projects, custom GPTs and scheduled tasks need Plus.
ChatGPT Plus ($20/month)
Plus is the plan most regular users should have. Since October 2026 it uses GPT-6 Sol by default, with selectable reasoning for harder problems.
You get:
- Advanced reasoning models and higher message limits
- 10 full and 15 lighter deep research reports a month
- Projects, custom GPTs and scheduled tasks
- Expanded Codex for coding
- ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile for multi-step tasks
- Higher limits on uploads, images, voice and memory
- No ads, and early access to new features
OpenAI does not publish exact message caps for Plus. In practice, most people only notice limits during long coding or research sessions.
ChatGPT Pro ($100, $200 or $500/month)
Pro now comes in three usage levels. All three include Pro reasoning with GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI’s most capable model, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, the Dot always-on agent, research previews and the maximum deep research and memory. Since late October 2026, Pro plans also include monthly OpenAI API credits that match the plan price, subject to eligibility.
| Pro level | Price | Usage (vs Plus, at launch) |
|---|---|---|
| Pro 100 | $100/month | About 5x |
| Pro 200 | $200/month | About 20x |
| Pro 500 | $500/month | Highest, with the fastest Work and Codex speeds |
Worth it if: ChatGPT is a core work tool for you, you run long Codex or Work sessions, or you would use the API credits anyway. For everyone else, Plus is plenty.
ChatGPT Business and Enterprise
Business (formerly Team) is for organisations with 2 to 200 users. Standard seats cost $25 per user per month, or $20 billed yearly. Premium seats cost $125, or $100 yearly, and give about five times the usage. Both include an admin console, SAML single sign-on, connectors to company tools, and SOC 2 Type II compliance. Your business data is excluded from model training by default.
Enterprise adds data residency, audit logs, service-level agreements, dedicated capacity and custom deployment. Pricing is by quote. Eligible nonprofits can get up to 75% off Business or Enterprise.
There are also education plans. ChatGPT Edu is sold to universities, and ChatGPT for Teachers is free for verified US K-12 educators until June 2027.
Which ChatGPT plan should you choose?
- Students and casual users: Free. Upgrade to Go only if you keep hitting upload or image limits.
- Freelancers, writers and small business owners: Plus. Deep research, Projects and ChatGPT Work pay for themselves quickly.
- Developers and power users: Plus first. Move to Pro 100 if you hit Codex or Work limits every week.
- Teams handling client or company data: Business, for admin controls and training opt-out by default.

ChatGPT plans vs the OpenAI API
ChatGPT subscriptions cover the ChatGPT apps. The OpenAI API, which developers use to build ChatGPT into their own products, is billed separately per token. The exception is the monthly API credit now included with Pro and some Business plans. If you are unsure what tokens are, our guide to AI tokens explains them in plain English.
How to upgrade, downgrade or cancel
